Digital, 11x8.5 in. Survey of Computer Art Applications project using vectors to recreate an iconic Savannah landscape in Adobe Illustrator.

This project was one of the most time-consuming, detail-oriented pieces I’ve ever worked on, but it was so much fun to finally learn my way around Illustrator! If I had to guess, I would say I’ve spent at least 40 hours over the last two weeks working on this piece. I started with a reference photo that I took of the SCAD Admissions building (photo #1), and then I traced all of the lines and shapes on top, eventually building from basic outlines (photo #2) to highlights, shades, and small details (photo #3). I also placed color gradients throughout to create a sense of volume, which is especially notable in the progression of the trolley from photo #2 to the final product in #4. Each individual shape in the picture was digitally drawn, colored, and layered by me, so the amount of time and effort required was extremely overwhelming. Nonetheless, I’m happy with how it turned out, and I can now say with confidence that I am a proficient Adobe Illustrator user!¬†Next up: Photoshop. Stay tuned!
