Color Theory: Hue, Value, and Intensity
Acrylic paint, 10x10 in.
The purpose of this project was to demonstrate my understanding of mixing colors and their complements as well as mastering the alteration of value and intensity within a hue. I transferred a gift wrap pattern onto paper and split the area into six sections: original pattern glued to the page (the center circle), direct color copy (ring 1), complementary colors to the original design (ring 2), opposite value (ring 3), opposite intensity (ring 4), and finally another direct match to test my improvement since the first layer. Looking back now, I definitely regret choosing such a complex pattern with so many colors and overlaps, especially considering the requirement was only 3… because this piece was quite a stressful challenge to complete! But in the end, I did learn a lot and I think my color-mixing skills have really improved.
