Georgia on my Mind

Hello from my new home! At this point I’ve moved in, unpacked, decorated, and conquered both my first night sleeping in a dorm and my first college shower. Next on the list: first meal at the dining hall, which I’ll probably wait until tomorrow to tackle.

The trip down to Savannah was long, but not unbearable; we made it in exactly 12 hours with a few detours. Most were necessary, like gas fillups / food stops / a Walmart trip to repair my popped bicycle tire, but others, not so much… like the Dairy Queen run with my ice cream-addicted father after he saw a Sweet Frog billboard and I didn’t pull over in time. We arrived by 9pm though and still had time to enjoy dinner on Broughton Street!

The following morning, my mom, dad, brother, and I explored the famous Savannah riverfront for lunch:

Then, reenergized, we began the long and strenuous process of moving in. It took many trips by all four of us to get both cars worth of my stuff (keep in mind the two cars were an SUV and a truck) up to the third floor and down the hall, followed by many hours of assembling, organizing, decorating, and unpacking by everyone in my family. Here’s an idea of everything I brought from home, minus my bicycle:

And here’s what the Turner House dorm room looked like when we started moving in:

So after a very long day of settling in, my family and I celebrated (quickly) with a delicious Italian dinner until I had to rush back for the outdoor screening of Monsters University in the SCAD Museum courtyard. My roommate and I only caught the end of the movie; it was fun, but it was even more fun to go back to the dorm and continue decorating our new space. I’ll post an official room tour as soon as everything is done, so stay tuned!
